Coaching Module 1 Overview: Climbing the Ladder Without Leaving Yourself Behind
July 31, 2026

Module 1 Overview
Which parts of yourself can you bring to work without sacrificing success?
Why This Matters
Do you ever feel like you're performing at work? Like you're watching what you say, how you dress, even how you laugh? Like there's a "work version" of you that's different from who you really are?
If you grew up working-class, are neurodivergent, or come from a different background than most people at your workplace, you've probably learned to adapt who you are to fit in. You might:
• Change how you talk to sound more "professional"
• Hide parts of your background or interests
• Spend hours crafting emails to get the "tone" right
• Feel exhausted after meetings from monitoring yourself constantly
• Worry that being "too real" will hurt your career
This constant performance is called "code-switching"—and it's exhausting.
Here's what makes this really matter:
When talented people burn out from performing all day, every day, they leave. And who replaces them? People who were born into the right networks, who never had to change themselves because they already fit the mold.
The result? Leaders who understand privilege but not struggle. Leaders who got there through connections, not competence. Leaders who perpetuate the same systems that keep talented people out.
This module teaches you how to climb without losing yourself—which is vital for making sure we have competent, real leaders in the future, not just people who inherited the right last name.
What You'll Learn
• Why constantly performing is exhausting (and how to measure YOUR specific drain)
• The Red/Yellow/Green Zones framework for being strategic about what you adapt
• How to stop performing 24/7 without getting labeled "unprofessional"
• Where you can be yourself vs. where you need to strategically adapt
• How to set boundaries around who you are without sabotaging your career
• A 30-second decision-making framework for authenticity choices

Why Start Here?
Exhaustion from performing is often the first sign that you're playing by unwritten rules you never learned. Before you can be strategic about communication (Module 2), assertive without backlash (Module 3), or create workplace leverage (Module 4), you need to understand:
• What's draining you - You can't change what you haven't measured
• What's negotiable - Not everything needs to change
• What's worth protecting - Some parts of you are non-negotiable
• How to decide quickly - You need a framework for daily decisions
This module gives you the foundation for everything that follows. You'll reference your Three Zones Framework throughout the entire program.
Common Questions
Q: What if my workplace won't accept ANY authenticity?
A: That's what the Red Zone is for. We identify what you absolutely won't compromise, then help you decide if this workplace is worth staying in. Sometimes the answer is "start looking elsewhere." We help you make that decision strategically, not reactively.
Q: Isn't this just telling me to "be professional"?
A: No. This is teaching you to choose WHERE to adapt strategically rather than performing everywhere all the time. The goal is less exhaustion, not more performance.
Q: What if I don't even know who I really am anymore?
A: That's extremely common and exactly why we start with data collection (Worksheets 1-2). We're not asking you to know yourself perfectly—we're helping you gather evidence about what exhausts you, then working backward from there.
Q: Can I do this module without doing the whole program?
A: Yes. Each module provides standalone value. However, most clients find they want Module 2 next because once you understand your authenticity boundaries, you need communication strategies to maintain them.
Q: How long does this module take?
A: Most clients complete Module 1 over 3-4 weeks:
• Week 1: Video 1, Worksheets 1-2, Coaching Session 1
• Week 2: Worksheets 3-6, Video 2
• Week 3: Coaching Session 2, Worksheets 7-9
• Week 4: Integration and experimentation
Integration with Other Modules
Module 1 prepares you for:
→ Module 2 (Strategic Communication): Once you know your authenticity boundaries, you need scripts to maintain them
→ Module 3 (Assertiveness): You'll need assertiveness skills to defend your Red Zone boundaries
→ Module 4 (Leverage): Understanding what you won't compromise helps you identify where you have real leverage
→ Module 5 (Delegation): You can't delegate effectively if you're still doing performative work to seem "hardworking"
If you've completed other modules first:
← From Module 3 (Assertiveness): Use your assertiveness skills to protect your Red Zone
← From Module 4 (Leverage): Apply leverage principles to negotiate more authentic work relationships
← From Module 5 (Delegation): Delegate performative tasks to create space for authenticity
